Summary Parasite ()

The BAU follows the mental decline of a con artist whose schemes have become so complicated that he begins to eliminate the people involved in them.

Agent Russell Goldman with the FBI's White Collar Division in San Diego brings a case to the BAU. A con man who he has been following for five years is suspected to have killed Carla Marshall in Miami, Florida. Carla had been in contact with Goldman about the con man, hence the supposed connection to him as her murderer. If the con man is indeed the unsub, Carla is the first known person he would have killed of those involved in his cons. His past cons generally involved using his charm and good looks to gain the trust of women. As the BAU review Goldman's files on the unsub, they find a change in his general lifestyle pattern from his early cons to the most recent. In reviewing the victim's background as well as the unsub's home life, the BAU believe they have a way to track him down. They have to work fast as they also believe that his mental state is devolving where he is becoming increasingly violent and murderous the closer anyone gets to discovering his fraudulent behavior, and the more he himself trips up trying to maintain his several aliases.

Synopsis Parasite ()

A woman is killed outside a club by dapper man called Henry. He then saunters inside a restaurant and sits across from a beautiful blonde. Henry is distracted from the meal by the scratches left behind on his hand. "Sorry, my head is still at work," he quips. Cut to the BAU team, which gets briefed on a con artist who might have turned murdered. The victim outside the club had just recently filed a report for fraud. "I don't think it was a coincidence," says agent Goldman, calling the con man a "smaller Madoff."

Later, the team plus Goldman take a ride on the jet. "What makes him kill now isn't financial," Rossi says. "It's psychological." The question is: why that particular victim? Upon landing, the team heads to the victim's home, which is hardly a mansion. Goldman explains that the woman didn't even give lil' Madoff that much money. "She might have been useful to him in some other way," Emily theorizes. Derek, meanwhile, finds a Web site that might belong to the swindler/killer. "He's selling the fantasy of success," Emily notes. Garcia does a search for Web sites containing the same content -- and discovers nine identical sites with different names attached. The team now has a list of aliases.

Back at the office, the team breaks down the information. "Being all these people, it must be fracturing him somehow," Rossi says. He then looks at the list of victims and notices that they follow no predictable pattern after the first three. So how did the unsub choose his later targets? "That's where we start," Hotch says.

The unsub is now at a yacht harbor reminding himself what his name is with this potential victim. As the man is writing his check, he asks who to make it out to. The unsub spells a different name then tries to cover up with more lies about having a partner. The man isn't buying it. They unsub grabs a crystal bottle and bashes the man in the head with it. Later, the team is at the scene. "He was close to getting his money, somehow failed and then did this," Emily observes. "When the con falls apart, this is how he handles it." Goldman interviews the dead man's wife, who blames herself for bringing "Randy" into their lives. She then admits to being a little randy herself -- and sleeping with the dirty hedge-fund manager.

We then cut to the home of the murderer, who has a wife and young son! He appears to live a completely normal life as "Bill." Bill then announces to his wife that they have to move -- again. "This economy is killing me," the man says. "We are moving to Boston. End of discussion!" The wife is suddenly scared. Something is wrong. Back at headquarters, the BAU team gives its profile to the cops. "He's a Casanova con man," Rossi explains. In other words, he sleeps with his rich clients to gain their trust. They also tell the police that the man's multiple aliases are causing him to mentally unravel. Sure enough, we cut to the killer, who is romancing yet another attractive woman. He again has to remind himself of his name. "I'm pregnant," the client says. "It's yours." Now THAT will completely ruin your day. Plus, the victim who wrote him a check at the beginning of the episode is getting cold feet and wants her check back. He promises to guarantee her money and wants to meet with her. Oh-oh!

The team then figures out that the killer must be losing money as earlier witnesses describe fancier cars and clothes. So the unsub must have downgraded. "These are lifestyle changes a new dad would make," Rossi theorizes. Reid explains that a wife and offspring would only serve to feed the narcissist's ego. Rossi has a more concrete reason for the man to get married: he can hide the money under his wife's name. "If we find the wife, we can find the unsub," Rossi says.

That night, the unsub is driving somewhere with his son and they hear a thumping noice coming from the trunk. He stops to check and tells his boy that the spare tire came loose and to just watch his dvd. Then he takes the tire iron and pummels the woman in the trunk. Later, he promises the boy that they won't have to move to Boston after all. He'll just "dump his client list" and start over. The next morning, the team finds the body. Rossi and Jennifer head to the woman's bank, where the manager explains the she recently sold a house. "When you sell a house, your name becomes public record," Rossi notes.

Back at headquarters, Garcia does some fancy computer work and discovers that all of the of the recent victims are connected through real estate. Specifically, the first victim found was an agent. She must have been targeted so that the unsub could search her files for potential "clients" who had recently sold a home and made money. Garcia then turns her attention to locating the killer's wife and pulls up a possible name: Rebecca Hodges. The woman has a nine-year-old son and a husband named William, which also happens to be one of the earlier aliases used by the unsub. Bingo!

We cut to the Bill/Henry/whomever, who is leaving the house of his pregnant client/girlfriend. Unbeknownst to the killer, his wife is following. When the unsub leaves, Rebecca confronts the mistress, showing her a picture of their family. "You didn't know Bill was married?" she demands. Says the stricken woman: "I didn't know his name was Bill." Emily and Goldman head to the home of Rebecca Hodges. The killer and his son drive past the house -- and keep on going. Garcia, meanwhile, discovers TWO cell-phone numbers in Rebecca's name -- and quickly surmises that one actually belongs to the killer. After performing a trace, she also notices that BOTH cell phones are active in the same neighborhood as a client and potential victim named Brooke Sanchez, the pregnant woman.

As a result, the entire team decides to head to the Sanchez estate, where Rebecca is commiserating with Brooke. Suddenly, Henry/Bill enters the home and sees his wife and lover sitting on the same couch. Then he sees red. Just then, the son runs into the house! Bill/Henry grabs the boy by the wrist. Rebecca begs him to release the boy. "You think I would hurt my own son?!" he demands. Well, yes. As if to prove our point, the man runs out of the house with his son -- and runs smack dab into the drawn weapons of Hotch and Rossi. "You must be tired, keeping up with these lies," Rossi says. "You don't have to do this anymore." The killer then looks into his son's crying eyes and relents. He lets the boy go to this mother ... and then deliberately reaches for his belt. Goldman SHOOTS! The unsub falls dead on the driveway. Of course, he didn't have a weapon. The man just wanted a way out.

Later, Jennifer attempts to comfort Rebecca. "He wasn't capable of this!" she cries. Jennifer warns her to "be prepared" as there is much the team does not yet know about her dead husband. Emily, in the meantime, tries comfort Goldman for taking the shot. "I never even found out his real name," Goldman says. Asks Emily: "Does it matter?" Guess not.
